Child Care Available

NJEA will again enlist the services of ACCENT on Children’s Arrangements to offer NJEA members attending the Convention low-cost child care. The cost is $20 per child, per day. Registration will be available in September.

Convention App

Smartphone users will be able to “let their fingers do the walking” at this year’s NJEA Convention with an application designed to run on iPhones, Android-based phones, and Blackberrys. The 2014 NJEA Convention app will be available in your app store this fall.

Discussion Forum on SGOs and Teacher Effectiveness

Please join us for a discussion on SGOs and teacher effectiveness. Sponsored by the New Jersey National Board Teacher Network. Let’s spend some time reflecting on accomplished teaching. Space is limited to 100 people.

New Jersey Future Educators Association (NJFEA) Meeting
Friday: 8:45 a.m. – 3 p.m. Room 201
This session is offered to high school students who are considering careers as future teachers. Students will attend a special program featuring a distinguished speaker who will discuss the rewards and challenges of teaching. Students will meet their 2013-14 NJFEA student officers, share happenings in their local NJFEA chapters, visit exhibits on the NJEA Convention floor, and network with future teachers from around the state. NJEA Delegate Assembly Meeting
Saturday: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Room 302
The Delegate Assembly (DA), NJEA’s policy-making body, will discuss and take action on proposed  association policy. The DA will hear comments presented by non-delegate members at 11 a.m. Any NJEA member may speak before the DA at this time as provided in the Rules of Procedure.

State Board of Education Meeting
Thursday: 3 – 4:30 p.m. Room 202
The New Jersey State Board of Education sets the rules needed to implement state education laws. Such rules cover the supervision and governance of the state’s public schools. That includes your school, your students, and you. For example, the State Board is responsible for developing and approving the regulations necessary to enact the new teacher tenure and evaluation law. Take advantage of this opportunity to ask questions or bring issues forward about education policy.

Teachers’ Pension and Annuity Fund

Representatives from the New Jersey Division of Pension and Benefits and the Division of Investment will present informartion about the Teachers’ Pension and Annuity Fund (TPAF) and answer your questions.
