Child Care Available

NJEA will again enlist the services of ACCENT on Children’s Arrangements to offer NJEA members attending the Convention low-cost child care. The cost is $20 per child, per day. Registration will be available in September.

Convention App

Smartphone users will be able to “let their fingers do the walking” at this year’s NJEA Convention with an application designed to run on iPhones, Android-based phones, and Blackberrys. The 2014 NJEA Convention app will be available in your app store this fall.

See fabulous science apps to use on your tablets and smart phones. Attendees are encouraged, but not required, to bring their own mobile devices to the session.

Cameras, Ready, Set, Shoot
Thursday: 3 – 4:30 p.m.

Get ready to learn how to bring to life a unit of study dealing with safety on social networks, creating beautiful pictures using a camera or mobile device, and proper posting on the Internet, all while infusing New Jersey’s State Core Standards. The resources you need can be accessed through Thinkfinity. You will be given Internet web links from Thinkfinity, the unit of study lesson plans, PowerPoint presenta­tion, and templates for your students to create their projects. Your students will love it!

Create a Common Core Toolkit!
Thursday: 9 – 10:30 a.m. Friday: 1 – 2:30 p.m.

All participants, K-8 will explore and take away a collection of free web-based resources and forma­tive assessments to guide in the implementation of the Common Core Standards. Connections will be made to the new Teacher Evaluation System, Excellent Educators for New Jersey (EE4NJ). Join a community of innovative teachers sharing resources and research-based best teaching practices to enhance student achievement

Designing Instruction to Reach 21st Century Learners

They don’t sit in rows with their hands folded any more, do they? Today’s students require approaches that draw them into the learning process. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a cutting edge approach to teach­ing that involves students with choice and effective use of multi-media. Thinkfinity is the perfect resource to enable today’s creative teachers to find lesson plans that integrate interactives, podcasts, Smart Boards with mobile devices like iPads and smartphones to develop classrooms that stimulate all students’ desire to learn. UDL and Thinkfinity? Perfect Together!

Engage All Students by Maximizing STEM Learning through Mobile Technology
Thursday: 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Friday: 9 – 10:30 p.m.

This session presents T3 (Teacher Tablet Training Project) as an opportunity to learn how current tech­nology is used in and out of the classroom. Educa­tors from Long Branch Middle School will share new ways to support STEM in your school. Participants will learn how to use tablets as a tool to improve academic performance in the classroom. Learn how to best support STEM learning through the use of online learning communities and mobile devices. Attendees are encouraged, but not required, to bring their own mobile devices to the session.
